Administrative Team

Dr. Sterling Seemans
Principal

Welcome Springer families! It is an honor to be your Principal and I look forward to serving the students, families, and staff with an unmatched energy and enthusiasm. I pride myself on being present, transparent, and a strong communicator. In my 15 years of education and 12 years of experience in school administration, I have found the importance of servant leadership and how it leads to success within a school community. As a Brandywine resident, I take the responsibility of raising our children seriously. I have strong beliefs surrounding education which are that all students can learn and need our attention across a wide spectrum of abilities, strong relationships between students and staff are grounded in respect for one another, safety of students and staff is of the utmost importance, and we will work to help students learn academically, but also socially and behaviorally which will include a multi-tiered system of support.

I could not be prouder to lead a Bulldog staff that is committed to providing a high-quality education to a diverse group of students. Through our collective efforts we will ensure that students have the best possible middle school experience. Our goal will be to prepare students for the challenges of high school and beyond. Our students will be their best bulldogs by living up to and achieving our BARK values (Be respectful, Act safely, Reach for excellence, & Kind actions).

Dr. Nicole Hyland
Assistant Principal

I have been an educator for 18 years.  My professional experiences include service delivery across public, charter, specialized, agency, and in-home settings with students ranging in age from birth to three through age twenty-one.  Within the district I have served in the capacities of Coach, Special Education Teacher, Special Education Coordinator, Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal.

My foremost influence for entering the field of education is a genuine desire to serve young people and to help them thrive. I am grateful for the many opportunities I have had to make a real difference in the lives of my students.  It is my belief that when an educator works to help a young person recognize the promise of their own future, then it is a job well done.

In addition to being the mother of 3 extraordinary kiddos, I am proud of my contribution to the field of education in the form of research that examines alternatives to student exclusion via Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports, Restorative Practices, and Social Emotional Learning.

I would have to say that the sum of my personal and professional experiences has contributed to a strong core belief rooted in possibility for every young person.  I acknowledge that while success may not look the same for each student, all students have potential and are deserving of the very best we have to offer.

I am excited to be a part of the Springer Community and I look forward to a fantastic year together.

Ms. Elizabeth Koons
Dean of Students

I am so excited to spend another year supporting the students, families, and community members of Springer Middle School. I feel honored to get to spend every day surrounded by amazing students and getting the opportunity to make an impact on their lives. This is my 3rd year at Springer and 6th in education. Upon graduating from Delaware State University, I began my career in education, teaching 8th grade mathematics prior to joining the Springer Family a few years later as a 6th grade Mathematics teacher. Throughout my time in education, I have served in the capacity of classroom teacher, instructional mentor, department chair, grade level team lead teacher, MTSS Tier 1 Coordinator, and now Dean of Students here at Springer Middle School.

As an educator, my commitment is to serve my community in a capacity that creates an environment where all students are taught the skills they need to succeed and supported in doing so. I hold a strong belief in creating a safe and supportive environment for students as they grow and develop interpersonal skills. During my career in education I have felt called to be in the different roles in which I have served, and serving the Springer community as Dean of Students is no different. In my role as Dean of Students, I plan to support our students both academically and personally, to ensure academic and behavioral success.

At Springer, I am the proud coordinator of our ever growing MTSS Tier 1 program, supporting all students all the time through positive behavioral recognition, supports, and social emotional learning. I pride myself on a strong understanding and belief in this model, and its contribution to the very real possibility of success for all of our Springer Bulldogs!
I could not be more honored to spend another year serving the Springer Community and am looking forward to getting to know our members during a fantastic year!
